    graphic design & currency

    chris lee is a graphic designer based in toronto, ca and buffalo, usa. he is a graduate of ocadu and the sandberg instituut, and has worked for the walrus magazine, metahaven and bruce mau design. chris researches and explores the co-terminal relationship between currency and graphic design, particularly typography, as a way to reflect on design’s entanglement with power, the inertia of standards, the problem of legitimacy, and the validation of testimony. his work seeks opportunities for speculating on alternative, non-coercive and decolonial forms for exchange. currently, chris is an assistant professor at the university at buffalo suny, and a member of the programming committee of gendai gallery.
